Description:
Chicago Style Blues in the Heart of Northern Michigan!
|
|
History:
Catch and Release Blues Band specializes in Chicago and Delta style blues, and combine the old standbys with some of their own original artwork and some blues work by modern artists.
Entering their fourth year together, members of the band came to the group with a varied and diverse background of musical interests. Vocals are sung by Mike Freer, who plays the unique blues ukulele, the blues harp and guitar. Mike was established in the acoustic coffee house folk style music for years before forming Catch & Release to join the other members in pursuing an interest in truly American classic music. Lead guitar work is provided by Kevin Tingstad, who came to the blues with a background as a performing musician in jazz and rock. The main percussion work is done by Seth Kilbourn, who, with a Masters in Music from Central Michigan University, and years of playing jazz and blues, brings a lifetime of percussion experience to the group. Finally, the bass line is delivered by Don Mick, who originally joined the group as a blues harp player and migrated to the bass.

Influences:
Catch & Release Blues Band plays in a style borrowed from Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Robert Cray, Eric Clapton and other classic blues artists. From those influences, Catch & Release Blues Band generates a sound that runs the full spectrum from acoustic blues to the roots of rock and roll.
